Today we had chicken breast in mushroom cream sauce from Mastering the Art of French Cooking (which Tripp bought me for my birthday) along with rice and asparagus. Polly loved it and had her plate almost completely cleaned by the time I sat down with my own plate. Tonight was the first time we let her eat rice and she was definitely a fan.
Tonight she also got her first real injury. I had taken a hot rack out of the oven and sat it against the wall. I walked away to get the rice and she crawled over and grabbed the rack and it fell tight onto her little foot, burning a small patch of skin on the side. We immediately ran it under cold water and I put diluted lavender eo on it to help stop the burning. I felt like the most awful neglectful mother in the world and promised her that if I, like my great great grandmother used to do, could pray fire out of wounds I would. She was unphased and back to her normal self in a few minutes and tomorrow I’ll put some salve on it to keep it from getting infected. I held her for most of the evening afterwards and we let her have a small sips of sparkling water as a treat (she LOVES sparkling water, which I find hilarious) and in general babied her very much. As I was cooking and holding her she wrapped both arms around my neck and gave me the sweetest hug. Ahhhhh, I just her love her so much it hurts.
Daddy gave her a sink bath and we dressed her in her coziest pajamas.
